Eng. 2J Mythology:

This course explores the myths, legends, and folktales humans have told each other from time immemorial. Myths both reflect and influence changes in our culture, allowing us to reflect on our values and our relationships to each other and the world. Myths explore such themes as development of the self, birth and death, the vicissitudes of nature, mortality and immortality, and society. What do myths have to tell us about ourselves and our world? How can myths help us understand those from other cultures and times? How have artists used mythological elements to inform their creations, and how might we use mythological themes in our own work? These are some of the themes and questions we will be exploring this spring.
