One of the biggest challenges
in succeeding in college is time management. Everyday tasks can be very
time consuming and if you do not balance your time for work, school, and home
you will find yourself lost sooner than you think. People who do not
balance their time are often not organized and do not have their priorities
straight.
Currently, I am attending a
junior college and at times I find myself with not enough time to finish all the
tasks I want to finish in a day. This is because I have poor time
management skills. I know that because of my lack of balancing time I do
not turn in my work to my fullest potential because often times I find myself
rushing through assignments. I am a procrastinator and it has not worked
for me in college. Since this is my first semester here at
At times I find myself so occupied I don’t even have time for myself.
Having bad time management takes a toll on a person emotionally as well.
If a person has number of things to do in one day and cannot get them all done
they feel stressed and can become frustrated. Being organized can help
relieve stress that may be cause by pressure.
When a person has a good
sense of time management their whole life seems to run smooth. It is
really weird because at work I have a great sense of time management because I
am constantly working up against deadlines I am forced to use my time
wisely. If I do not make a deadline it looks bad on my part which affects
the relationship of my boss and I. Since I am at the bottom of the seniority chain. I
need to prove myself worthy of working there. I am also seen at the baby
since I am the youngest but I try to prove that even though I am the youngest I
can still keep up with the others in department.
At home it is important to
have good time management, if not there will be
nothing but chaos. I know in my home if there was no organization of time
there would be no chores done and everything would be a mess. One thing
that my parents have always made sure of is that at the end of each day we all
sit down at the dinner table and have dinner together. Family time is
very important in my house. I feel because my parents have always valued
family time is the reason we are so close. I look around to at my peers
and they do not have the same relationship with their parents that I do because
they all do their own thing and never make time for each other. When I
have my family, I look forward to teaching my children how valuable family time
is.
Personal time for me is a
time to relax, hang out with friends, and also spend time with my
boyfriend. This is like my fun time for myself to be able to loosen up
and forget about responsibilities and stress that comes from everyday life.
This is my time to be care free and just enjoy myself. One thing I love
to do during my personal time is going dancing. Again having time
management is connected to emotions because during this time I tend to relieve
stress I may have had throughout the week. During this time I tend to
relieve stress I have had throughout the week. This time should be abused
because if I abuse this time I will be stuck with no time to do anything else.
Making time for school
is challenging for me. Not only do I have to attend class, but at times I am
stuck at home working for hours in a day when I am away from school. This
is the time that I usually lenient with pushing back. This is bad because
being lenient causes me to procrastinate which affects the quality of my
work. I felt if I was to be stricter with myself for school time I would
probably reach my full potential academically. Right now that I do
procrastinate I tend to make good grades. If I was to actually take the
time I really need for my school work I would succeed in all my classes with
all A’s. I just had a ten page research paper due this week for
psychology which needed a great amount of time and attention. I
procrastinated and ended up working on the assignment the night before it was
do. I stayed up until 5 in the morning and work up to go to school at
around 7:10 woke up late because I commute 30 minutes to get to school so I was
running late. I ended up speeding the whole way to school and risked
getting a ticket or getting hurt. On top of that the paper was due before
role call and the teacher would not accept it late. I walked into class a
minute early and barely made it. All that work would have been for
nothing if I would have walked in late. That’s why I need to start
practicing good time management in school. To keep this from happening how
would have started it sooner buy a planner be more strict with myself and limit
relaxation time.
I encourage incoming freshman
students to practice good time management skills in order to succeed to
college. Life will go much easier in all aspects of your life.
Learn from mistake in high school and do not bring them to college. It is
not the same your parents are paying a large amount of money and there is no
need to waste it.
