Stop Procrastinating
In today’s world there are many people who
leave things until the last minute. There are many reasons why people tend to
do this. As a result people don't succeed in the goal trying to be
accomplished.
Among all the people who procrastinate
usually students are at the highest population. When it comes to assigned work
to be turned in at a certain date, the normal students get to it right away. Leaving the rest of the students who procrastinate doing it in a
rush either the night before or even finishing it the morning of the due date.
With more and more times of this occurring it can become a bad habit.
If procrastination becomes a habit, it may lead to some serious consequences.
Some consist of not getting enough sleep and always have the tendency of
leaving tasks until the last minute. For example, if a college student has a
reputation of procrastinating constantly, most likely he will embrace it even
more. As tasks or assignments are stacking up, the student will take a negative
side and just give up. Which may lead to either the student not passing classes
or sadly dropping out of school is the more negative side.
One of the major causes of procrastination is distraction. Or the
subject or field being studied is boring. When you're about to
start a duty, people often find it hard to start. In this situation, such as writing an
essay, people can find it difficult to begin. Early in the semester I was among
those people. The work area is not conformable; therefore, you are not at your
best. As you begin, you start to crave a snack or soon become hungry. If the person is texting or on myspace
while trying to write the essay, it can cause major delay. These factors
make a difference in procrastinating.
Since most college students are teenagers, their main focus is having fun.
College partying is something most incoming freshmen look toward. You get a
call from a friend saying that there will be a huge party tonight and convinces you to go. But you had set plans to start the
assignments, ending up in a tough situation, thinking about the party and the assignments you need to complete. Since going
out and having a fun time seems better, you end up going to the party and tell
yourself you will complete the assignments when you return. Little did you know
that you just procrastinated. You set the task
aside and decided to do something else more interesting. When you arrive home, you
are tired and ready to go to sleep so you have just set all the assignments aside.
By leaving everything aside, you are stuck doing everything at the last minute.
I can relate to things I have said especially through my high school years. For
example, procrastination was an issue with me. Leaving everything for the last
minute was a bad habit I developed. I wanted to further my education and push
myself harder toward achieving my goal. I feel that I have learned from that
mistake and will stay away from it. It was hard and even though sometimes I
still do it I try to avoid it when I am aware of the situation.
There are ways to try to avoid procrastination that you can try doing if that is
a problem with you. Manage time better and dedicate that time to the task. Make
a list of the duties you need to do. Having a clear overview of what you will
be doing is one way to try to avoid the habit.
Not only will you feel good about having things done early but the work completed
will be at a better scale than previous. Dealing with all the hassle of getting
everything done and always being at a rush will be all gone. Academically you
will succeed and will not take chances to either do poorly or take a
more dramatic step of dropping out from college.
Even though everybody finds themselves procrastinating at one point or the
other, always try to avoid it. Sometimes I find myself doing it and I just regret it and try to stay back on
track. In my view responsibility and maturity are two characteristics that are
needed in a person to prove they are ready and reach out to attain it.
As we know college students may find it difficult finding time so that is why
they procrastinate. Mostly they all work and attend school, which leaves little or
no time to be doing homework. You just need to find that little of time and do it
without any excuses.
As described earlier about getting the call to attend the party, in that
situation the best answer was to say "no" as well as all the other
distractions that may come in contact with you. Dedicate yourself to finishing what
you need to finish, and once you are done, then you can attend, which will motivate you to complete the assignment and then
go out and have fun, not needing to worry anymore and the anxiety
is gone.
This will help you continue attending college and hopefully succeed. My
friend dropped two of his classes this semester because he wouldn't attend
class. Mainly because his friend would always tell him to do something else or
would doing other things he believed would be
interesting. Having support will help you dramatically. It will motivate and
bring out the best. Stop procrastinating and get things done now instead of
later. Do not wait until the last minute as it can have a negative side to it.
It can also become a habit that you will not like and will continue to keep
doing it.
Identify the problem and take control of the situation.
Get things done early. Then you're not only complete but you have taken all the
weight from your back feeling more relaxed. It will be a positive effect and
soon will adopt a new way into life. Stop trying to get things done in a hurry and the last minute. The completed work will not be
the best you are capable of doing and it will reflect. Procrastination is
not the way to go even if it seems easy when making the decision. Always try to
avoid this problem. Stop procrastinating!
