Asking for help
By: Monique Espinoza
The first year in college is always exciting because you get to know new people and you have know one to tell you , you have to be in school. For me it just the same as I was going to high school but worst. I’m a student that works and goes to school full time, its pretty tiring. I have this problem; I procrastinate all through high school, and trying not to do it in college. Procrastinating is really hard for me I do this when final essays are due and when a projects due. It always occurs the day before its due, and I always for get how it done or I just don’t understand it. Asking help is frustrating because I don’t want the teachers to think “o you still don’t get it, I explained it to the class three times already” that just gets me mad, but with other teachers its okay to ask because they know that I want to do it right. Well since now being in college I learned how to manage my time to ask for help, so I could get a good grade. When I get a bad grade on one paper is because I know I procrastinated and waited to the last minute.
In college of university of South Florida estimated ninety percent college students experienced the delay in beginning or completing tasks. It also occurs mostly when term papers are due, and studying for an examination. This experience that college students have been through, I know hoe stressful it could be because you think “man I’m going to get a bad grade I should not even do it.” Procrastination has also
been found to be occurring with negative academic outcomes, delaying taking a paced quiz, and course withdrawal. Even though were are not in high school we have a choice of being dumb skipping class and not doing the work and getting help. It sounds hard to do but understand in the long run it’s a good thing that you ask, because this shows them you don’t want to fail, you want to succeed.
When procrastinating we understand we as students are just tired ding class work every day but we don’t see that we are reaching different levels in our life. Some college students have a hard time asking for help so you could get a good grade. I know I did and it was hard, but worth the struggle. Students don’t know that they could ask there family like cousins, parents, aunts and uncles or friends. What I did to get out of this habit of not doing my work, I would email my teachers and talk to them. It could be hard at times but it’s easy to do.
Procrastination results fear from both test, and the class, and asking for help. That’s true we do have fear of these things because we don’t know what’s next that going to happen or how the essay will turn out to be, or what is their grade overall. Statistically more than half college student is going through this everyday not knowing what to do or how to over come it.
Academic procrastination tends to always problematic levels of anxiety associated. For example; they might have a problem with test, like studying for it, getting time to do it by not rushing. Social is another anxiety they go through. Theses types have a problem talking to others.
To get rid of procrastinating ask for help don’t wait. Manage your time do your assignment a week before. Learn how to get help with what you need, and talk to people about it.
