Creating a New Presentation

PowerPoint Dialog Box

When you want to produce a quick, well-designed presentation and you need help with ideas for the content, you should select the AutoContent Wizard option.

To select a predefined look, you should select the Design Template option.

You should select the Blank presentation option when you want total control over your presentation and do not need any assistance with the look or content.

Once a presentation has been created, you can select the Open an existing presentation option to edit it or to use it as a basis for a new presentation.

Using the AutoContent Wizard

PowerPoint start-up dialog box

When PowerPoint opens, you will be presented with the PowerPoint start-up dialog box. The startup dialog box gives you four options for starting your presentation. See table below for an explanation of all the options in the PowerPoint startup dialog box. The first option, the AutoContent Wizard, is the quickest way to create a presentation. A wizard is a series of steps that guides you through creating a presentation.

 Option  Description
AutoContent Wizard Helps you determine the content and organization of your presentation by creating a title slide and an outline using ready-made text for the category you choose.
Design Template Opens the New Presentationdialog box, containing PowerPoint design templates; you can click a template to see a preview of it.
Blank Presentation Opens the New Slide dialog box, allowing you to choose a predesigned slide layout for the first slide, then opens a presentation with no predefined content or design.
Open an existing presentation Opens the Open dialog box, allowing you to open a previously created presentation; you can preview a selected presentation before opening it.
