Allies, Enemies

The hero encounters a series of forces which are aligned with the hero or against him.  Though the allies are there to help the hero through, he must ultimately make the journey alone.  The enemies may hinder the hero on his quest, but cannot stop him from his destiny, which culminates in the supreme ordeal.
