Assignment 8:
Selection, Brushes, Clones, Healers, and Layers
Use one of your candid
or portrait pictures that were taken in assignment 5. Your goal is to practice
by creating the following. Your grade will not be based on perfection at
this point. This is a practice assignment using the vast tools discussed
in chapter 3 and 4.
- Using the clone tool, retouch the face of the person in your portrait or
candid photgraph. Try to make their features perfect.
- Using various selection tools and the quick masks to isolate the person,
copy the person from the background. Put this person back in the same photograph
as above, making two of the same person in the photo. Use layers to put the
two people in proper perspective. Resize the copy of the person to reflect
where you paste them in the picture. Select the layer, then use Edit-Transform-Scale
for this. You may want to distort the image a little to give the second
person a more individual look
- This is a technique that
is very valuable in digital photography. Paste the copy of the person into
a New file and using the brush tools, paint the
background layer. The pasted person will be on an upper layer. It does not
have to be realistic, but at least a little artistic.
- Print the original and the two or three modified images on a single sheet
of paper, print out on just the good ink jet paper (not photo paper), and
turn them in November 28.
