Assignment 6: On-line Photo
Gallery. Due March 16, 2010!
Note: These steps
are complex. Please read through them before attempting this project.
Prepare images:
You must have at least 6 image files for your gallery. Import these
images into iPhoto. Just drag them in in from the desktop or a memory card,
etc. In iPhoto, make a New Album (under the File menu), then select the images
from the library that you want and drag them to this new album.
Open each image in Photoshop, by dragging it from the Album to the
Photoshop icon on the Doc. Don't attempt to learn all about Photoshop. It's vast and takes
time. Enroll in DM 75 Photoshop next semester or DM 80 Digital
Photography to learn more.
Edit each one using tools from the Image>Adjustment menu (e.g., Variations,
Brightness/contrast, Color, Levels), Filters like Sharpen>unSharp mask, and Edit>Transform
(e.g., Scale, Flip, Distort). Make the images look as good as you can on
the screen.
In Photoshop, crop with crop tool or resize ( Image
Size under the Image menu) to no smaller than 1024 pixels in the biggest
direction. Be sure to set the Image Size resolution (under the Image menu)
to 72 PPI if it isn't already. Always save images as a PSD file type.
Make a new folder in your UserPictures folder (on the left in a Finder Window) called GalleryImages.
Save each edited image using the PSD file format (Photoshop) to this folder. This will become the source folder when making the Gallery. Do NOT put anything else in this folder.
Construction of the Gallery for your Web Site:
When you're all done and have just your final images in the GalleryImages folder,
go to File>Automate and choose Web Photo Gallery. Go through the dialog
boxes setting the names and other parameters. Make a new folder called YourName_Gallery
(e.g., Obama_Gallery) as your “target" web gallery folder. Make sure the source folder
is the GalleryImages folder that you previously made. After you have been
through all the pull down menu options, click OK or whichever it is.
View your new Photo Gallery by dragging the index.html file located in the YourName_Gallery
folder to Safari on the Doc. This will open your gallery in the browser.
If you made a mistake, then you must delete all the folders, html pages,
and images that Photoshop made in the YourName_Gallery folder before
making a new Photo web site. Use the GalleryImages again as the source and
the YourName_Gallery folder as the target.
Turn in the project by opening the Class Box folder on the network. Open the RBeede folder. Hold the option key (this will make a copy) and drag your YourName_Gallery folder into the Drop Box. It will disappear.
