Gavilan
College
Course: DM 110: Web Animation and Authoring: Flash
Instructor: Robert Beede. See instructors page for
office hours.
Final Project:
Spring 10
due Final Exam class, May 26
The class has learned has learned alot about Flash. The final
project should reflect that work. Work as a team if possible. The project
should take around 9-18 hours of time to complete. It would be wonderful
if the project was something that Gavilan could use. The important thing is to pick something that you can complete in the alloted time--3 weeks!!!
You must do either an original project which is entertaiment (animation), a web site, or something that could be incorporated into a web site such as a video gallery, series of Flash banners, or interactive game (action script is not easy).
A few ideas for original projects are:
- You may expand on any personal project that you have already started.
- A web site or a feature for any Gavilan department or GAV-18 that is purely Flash based or
contains significant Flash in its design.
- A portfolio presentation or interactive game for delivery on CD and the
web. We have not covered a lot in this area, but help is available.
- An animated commercial for the Digital Media would be a perfect project. This can be converted into video to play on GavTV or on the web.
- An animation for another one of your classe that could be used to demonstrate
an instructional concept. Check with your instructor.
- Starting or making your own animated portfolio or web site is a choice too.
Requirements:
- A few bitmapped objects (symbols) are appropriate.
- At least 2 movie clips should be used.
- Animation is a must, of course.
- There should be a little scripting if possible (e.g., a little timeline control
by interaction from a user). Use of components is acceptable too.
- Good text design rules should be followed. If you need help with this, see
instructor or you might want to refer to the book, Web Design for non-Designers,
by Robin Williams, Pub: Peachpit Press (ask the instructor if interested)
Project substitutes: As a substitute for your own original project, you may work either Project 7 or 8 depending on your interest. Remember to do the on your own part (B part) at the end of tis chapter.
Development hints:
- Get content as soon as you can. Remember to get royality free pictures or
BMI/ASCAP music A digital camera, camcorder, and a synthesizer are available
for creating your own media. Royality free sound effects are in SoundTrack
Pro and GarageBand. Atomic Learning has videos for these programs which are also good for doing voice overs.
- This instructor realizes that not everyone is a Tolouse Latrec, so do the best
you can with your own art skills. Let your individual creativity emerge. Flash
loves it.
- Remember some of the techniques that we have studied in class. Remember to
break animations or interactivity into scenes if you can. Movie clips are little stand alone Flash movies that can be added o the timeline, scripted to do odd things, and used for repititive motion. What one can do in Flash is to always figure out a way to make things easier and quicker. Time = money in the real world.
It is a must to have fun, even while struggling to make it work the way you
want!
