Course Description: 

In CD14 students will review the developmental characteristics of school-aged children, issues relating to enrichment and after school programs for children from kindergarten to grade six, and specific details of leading and working in such a program. Students who complete this class with a C or better will be prepared to work with school-aged children in a variety of ways.  

Some observations and activities will involve visiting after school programs for school-aged children.  Please begin to notice where those places are in your community.

My online office hours are intended for you; students may also drop in to my "real" office during posted times without an appointment, or call me to make an appointment for another time. You are expected to post responses to weekly assignments by Sunday night, and to post at least one response each week to another student's posting.   If you disappear from the board for two weeks without contacting me, you may be dropped (see withdrawal policy below).

GAVILAN COLLEGE WITHDRAWAL POLICY: A student who stops attending is not automatically dropped from class, although it is the instructor's option to do so if a student misses one more class hour than the unit value for a particular class without making prior arrangements. If you wish to drop a class, a Petition for a Change of Program card should be filled out, signed by the instructor, and returned to the Admissions Office. Failure to do this may result in a failing grade.
Students requiring special services or arrangements because of hearing, visual or other disability should contact their instructor, counselor, advisor, or the Disabled Student Services Office. 
Limited English language skills will not be a barrier to admittance to and participation in vocational education programs.
