Intro to Online Gavilan

Counseling

Gavilan College counselors are committed to serving the community, students, staff and faculty by providing comprehensive counseling programs and services. Full-time professional counselors provide educational, career, vocational, transfer, and personal counseling services, teach guidance courses and present workshops on career planning, study skills, general transfer requirements, and other topics. Counselors are available by appointment, walk-in service, or online for distance ed students. The department also presents numerous workshops on career planning, study skills, general transfer requirements, and other topics.

Using the Counseling Services

Gavilan College provides Online Academic Counseling for online or distance ed students.

To make the most of your advising session, you should be prepared to provide the following information about yourself:

  • name and e-mail address
  • your Gavilan ID number
  • currently enrolled?
  • EOPS, Puente, MESA, DRC or TRIO student?
  • other colleges attended
  • major
  • educational goal (transferring?)
  • career objective

Online counseling is conducted over unencrypted email, and is thus vulnerable to "electronic eavesdropping" at any point between your computer and Gavilan's network. We will not permit you to transmit social security numbers or credit card information over this link. It is up to you to use your discretion and common sense about how much personal information you communicate over e-mail.  It will be necessary for you to agree to an online waiver  before communicating with the counselor.  Go to the online waiver.

A counselor will respond within two working days.
