Using Check Boxes

Command options that you can select (activate) or deselect (deactivate) are usually presented as check boxes. When a check box is selected, a check mark appears in the box, indicating the associated command option is active (see figure below).

To select or deselect a check box with the mouse, click on its box. Using the keyboard, press Alt + selection letter to select or deselect a check box. For example, press Alt + U to activate the Underline option shown in the figure below.

Procedures:

1. Open the Start menu.
2. Click on the Programs menu.
3. Click on the Accessories submenu.
4. Click on the program called Wordpad.
5.
Click on the Format menu.
6. Choose the Font menu option.
7. Try clicking on the Effects check boxes to make each one active.
8. Click on the Close button or Cancel button to close the Font dialog box.
9. Try the same procedures using the keyboard only.
