Final Bibliography Project

Due Date: Last Day of Class

Finding, Citing and Summarizing Sources

For your final project, you will choose any subject that interests you. The project is due on the last day of class. No late submissions will be accepted.
The goal is to find good sources of information on your subject, in a variety of formats (print and electronic, book and website, magazine and journal). You can find as many sources as you want, but you must include at least one from each of these six categories:
  • A book, from any library.
  • An article from a reference source (encyclopedia, dictionary, atlas, etc.)
  • An article from a popular magazine.
  • An article from a professional journal (For more information on how to find one, see the About Journals tutorial).
  • A website found using a search engine.
  • A website found using a subject directory.

Each source should be cited using the standard MLA format. Each source should also be annotated (summarized) in 2-3 lines, telling me what kind of source it is, i.e. a book, article, etc., and what information you can use from it.

When you list your sources, you should alphabetize them according to the first letter of the citation. Usually this will be the author's last name, but in those cases where there is no author given, you will use the first word of the title.

You can look at this sample put together by a student from another semester. We will be reviewing the methods of citing in lesson 21 at the very end, in case you run into problems.

If you need help with citing sources or would like to see examples of how specific sources are cited, please visit  this site.

When you type your bibliography, please save it in RTF (Rich Text Format). You will be sending it to me via e-mail as an attachment.

Note: In the MLA format you should be double spacing between the lines of your citation. I did not emphasize this in your weekly assignments as it would have been difficult for you to double space within the text/answer boxes.

If you wish, you can submit a draft copy of your bibliography early. If you finish it, or part of it, and submit it to me about 10 days before the final due date, I will take a look at it and return it to you with corrections. You can then resubmit it for your final grade.
