DESCRIPTION: An introduction to terminology, design, operation, and usefulness of computers in the business environment. The student will gain “hands-on” experience by using a microcomputer to run various software programs including Windows, word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation graphics and the Internet.

ADVISORY: Eligible for Mathematics 233 and English 250; Keyboard knowledge or concurrent enrollment in CSIS 122

OVERALL WORKLOAD:

13 LAB ASSIGNMENTS USING THE LAB BOOK PROVIDED BY INSTRUCTOR.
2 LAB QUIZZES.
A FINAL EXAM.
TASKS:

THE COURSE IS SELF-PACED; EACH STUDENT WORKS AT HIS/HER PACE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE ALL ASSIGNMENTS.

COMPLETE THE 13 LAB ASSIGNMENTS (SEE THE LESSON SHEETS FOLDER).
COMPLETE THE 2 IN-LAB QUIZZES.
COMPLETE THE FINAL EXAM.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:

The student will demonstrate ability to:

(1) Identify and use the computer hardware components--keyboard,
monitor, disk drives and printer.
(2) Perform exercises using a variety of applications/tutorials including: Windows XP, Microsoft Office,
Word Processing, Spreadsheet, Presentation Graphics, Database, and Internet.
ATTENDANCE:

Students missing 3 or more class sessions without prior arrangement with
the instructor may at instructor’s option be dropped without possibility of credit.
GRADING:

THE LAB ASSIGNMENTS, QUIZZES, AND THE FINAL EXAM CONSTITUTE ABOUT 370 POSSIBLE POINTS.

STUDENT MUST COMPLETE HALF THE ASSIGNMENTS (1ST 6 LAB ASSIGNMENTS AND 1 QUIZ) BY END OF 8TH CLASS SESSION OR POINTS
ACHIEVED WILL BE REDUCED BY 20% ON EACH ASSIGNMENT SUBMITTED AFTER THE 8TH SESSION UNTIL HALF THE ASSIGNMENTS
HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED.

61% - 70%: D- -> D+
71% - 80%: C- -> C+
81% - 90%: B- -> B+
91% - 100%: A- -> A
