MLA Exercises 1-7

Purpose:

To practice MLA format for citations in formal research essays.

Overview:

These exercises give you practice with the ins-and-outs of MLA format, and of citation rules in general.  You can attempt them as many times as you like.  The one dumb thing is that the exercises don't change, so you will have to go through the same set of exercises the second time around.  Despite this shortcoming, these exercises will certainly give you some practical experience with the logistics of citation.

Directions

1. Go to the Diana Hacker website
2. Create an account by clicking on "Student" under "Register" on the right of the screen.  It will ask you for an email address, your name, a password, and your instructor's email address.  Use ecrook@gavilan.edu.  Please type this in carefully; any mistake will reroute your results, and I will never see them.

3. Return to the Hacker home page by clicking "continue" and click on "Research Exercises", then "MLA"
4. Complete the following 7 exercises. Use the red arrow to navigate from question to question.  In order to receive credit for these exercises, you will need to get at least 80% on each one. You can do the exercises as many times as necessary to get the required 80%. Note: The really lame thing is that they don't change the questions, so if you have to repeat an exercise, you should take extra time to figure out what you did wrong the first time instead of just automatically choosing the other answer.
