Seminar #5 - Poetry Remembered

Directions:

Think about these questions

1. What kinds of poetry have you been exposed to in your life?
2. Do you have favorite poems or poets, from your youth or present day? Whose work have you appreciated over time, and why?
3. How would you define "poetry"? What elements does poetry have that makes it differ from other kinds of writing? What makes "children's" poetry specifically aimed at children? Where is the overlap between adult poetry and children's poetry? What are the main differences?

Write a brief (1-2 paragraph) response to one or more of those questions. You could include a copy or recommendation of, or a link to, your favorite poem, if you wish.

Post your paragraph using the "New Topic" button.  Initial postings will be due by Mon, Sept. 24 at midnight.

Respond to at least two of your classmates' paragraphs.  When you respond, do add something to the discussion. Don't just say "I agree" or "disagree".  Give specific reasons why you feel the way you do, examples from your own childhood or observations, and other evidence. Responses are due by midnight Mon, October 1.
