Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

Read chapters 1- and write a brief (1-2 paragraph) response to the following question. Include at least one quote.

Using the principles of Historical Criticism, find an example of a 20th century norm, attitude or practice in the book.  Explain Rowling's reaction to this norm, attitude or practice. Does she endorse it, or does she rebel against it?  Alternately, you might describe how it might affect a child reading the book. Use quotes from the text to back up your ideas.
