Course Description and Objectives:  This course if the first half of Elementary Algebra.  You will

Evaluate expressions using signed numbers.

Solve problems with ratios and proportions and use linear equations to solve problems.

Graph a linear equation. Find the slope and equation of a line.

Solve systems of equations and problems using systems of equations.

PREREQUISITE: Math 402 with a grade of ‘Pass’ or with a ‘C’ or better, or assessment test recommendation.   ADVISORY: Concurrent enrollment in Guidance 563A is advised.   Units: 2.5

Attendance:   Anyone who stops attending class for 3 days can expect to be dropped.  If you are unable to attend class, please keep in touch by email to inform me of any conflicts in your work/life.

Grades:  I will guarantee you a grade of B in this class if you

·         Come on time to every class and don’t leave early.

·         Do problems in class and hand in homework on time.

·         Ask questions about things you don’t understand and problems you are unable to do.

Academic Honesty:  Students are expected to exercise academic honesty and integrity.  Violations such as cheating and plagiarism will result in disciplinary action which may include recommendation for dismissal.  Working with others on math problems is a good way to learn the material and is encouraged.  However make sure that you also practice and can do the work on your own.  Quizzes and exams are to be your own work.
