Transfer Information

     

Steps to Transfer Success:

  1. Determine your major or area of study you would like to pursue at a four year university.
  2. If you are undecided on a major, visit our Transfer and Career Center for assistance or consider taking our career assessment course Guidance 1.

  3. Make an appointment with a counselor to assist you in completing an educational plan.
  4. This plan will show you the classes you will take at Gavilan College each semester before receiving an AA/AS degree and/or transferring.

  5. Complete the General Education requirements and be aware of the transfer pattern you are following.
  6. Are you following the AA GE Pattern?

    Are you following the CSU GE Pattern?

    Or are you following the IGETC?

  7. Complete a minimum of 60 transferable units.

  8. Pass all of your courses with a "C" (2.0) grade average or better.
  9. Try to take your Math and English and Communication courses as soon as possible.
  10. This is because universities will not accept you if you have any of these courses pending the summer before you transfer.

  11. Use assist to determine articulation agreements between four year transfer institutions and Gavilan College.
  12. Complete a Transfer Admissions Agreement.
  13. If you will be transferring in the Fall semester, have 30 transferable units or more, are in good standing, and have at least a 2.0 GPA you are eligible to complete a Transfer Admissions Agreement (TAA).

    This form must be completed between the months of September and October. See a counselor for more information.

  14. Apply to the four year institution you will be transferring to.
  15. If you are applying to the CSU System, apply online using CSU Mentor.

    If you are applying to the UC System, apply online using the UC Homepage.

    If you are applying to Private universities, apply online using the Common Application or visit the website of the private college of your choice.

  16. Consider application deadlines.
  17. For fall transfer students, the UC and CSU application period is between October 1st and November 30th. For spring transfer students the application period is during the summer.

    However, currently many universities are NOT accepting Spring transfers.  Check with your counselor for more information.

    The private university application period varies. For more information, visit the website of the private university you are planning to transfer to.

  18. Complete a Gavilan College Graduation Petition if you are planning on receiving an AA/AS degree from the college.

    For students graduating in the fall semester this application should be completed between the months of September and October.

    For students graduating in the spring semester this application should be completed between the months of February and March.

  19. Apply for financial aid by completing the FAFSA.
  20. Make sure you include the university to which you will be transferring on your application.

    To be elegible for CalGrant and Pell Grants, you must apply between January 1st and March 2nd!

Important Dates and Deadlines for Transfer Students

September/October Make an appointment with your counselor to complete your Gavilan Graduation Petition for fall graduation
October 1st-November 30th UC Application and CSU Application filing period for fall transfer students.
November 1st Register for the WST
January Report final grades and any additional coursework to the university you are planning to transfer to.
January 1st Filing period opens for GPA verification Form and FAFSA.
February/March Make an appointment with your counselor to complete your Gavilan Graduation Petition for spring graduation
March 1st-May 1st Notification for Fall admission decisions is sent to you in the mail.
March 2nd Deadline for submission of FAFSA and GPA Verfication Form.
June 1st Deadline for Fall transfers to submit "Statement of Intent to Register" to chosen campus.
July 1st-31st Filing period for winter and spring semester transfers.
July Final official transcripts are due at the four year university for students admitted for the fall semester.
